Box Score LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team came away with a road draw against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental 1-1 on Wednesday night at Jack Kemp Stadium.
Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens move to 3-9-3 overall and 2-5-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by first-year Jorge Guillen-Lopez who netted the only goal for the Sagehens in the win. Junior Bryan Diangson played in goal for the Sagehens and stopped four balls in 110 minutes for the draw
Pomona-Pitzer came out firing on offense early on in the game as they outshot the Tigers 8-5 in the first half with four of those shots on target. The Sagehens got the first goal of the night to fall 28th minute of the match after a deflection in the midfield fell to the feet of Guillen-Lopez who struck it well outside the box and beat the keeper across goal to take a 1-0 lead. That goal became the fourth of the season for Guillen-Lopez as he leads the Sagehens in goals and points.
However, that lead did not last long as the Tigers scored an equalizer off of a free kick in the 34th minute to bring the score back to even at 1-1.
After halftime, the Tigers became the aggressors on offense as they searched for a game-winning goal at home. Occidental outshot the Sagehens 9-2 in the final 45 minutes but could not find the back of the net as the two teams went into extra time tied at 1-1.
The Tigers had a few chances to walk away with a win in overtime as one goal was called off due to an offside flag being up and another scramble in the box led to a shot just wide of the post as the Sagehens held on to a 1-1 draw on the road.
