Box Score

PORTLAND, OR. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team earned their first road win of the season with a 34-21 win over Lewis & Clark on Saturday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens open up 2018 with two-straight wins to improve to 2-0 on the year.

The Sagehens had three quarterbacks throw for a touchdown with senior Edward Sias leading the way with 173 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Karter Odermann finished the day 7-10 with 81 yards and a touchdown while sophomore Nick Kapule threw for 78 yards including a 53-yard touchdown pass.

Kapule also led all rushers with 40 yards and Odermann had a career night catching the football with career bests 129 yards and three scores.

The Sagehen defense came away with four turnovers against the Pioneers with interceptions from senior Elan Harris and sophomore Nick Pacult and fumble recoveries from senor William Nahm and sophomore Alex Gold.

The defense also continued to swarm the quarterback as they racked up four sacks from sophomore Adam Webber, junior Josh Portnoy, Nahm and sophomore Max Mani.

The Sagehens got the ball to start and put up numbers in a hurry as Odermann connected with Win Hunter to cap off a 67-yard drive to take an early 7-0 lead on the road.

The Pios punted on their first possession of the game but the Sagehens fumbled on their first play back with the ball that turned into a Lewis & Clark scoring drive to tie the game at 7-7. The Pioneers went on to take their first lead of the afternoon on a one-yard touchdown run to take a 14-7 lead over the Sagehens.

The Sagehens responded just before halftime as Kapule connected with Odermann for a 53-yard touchdown to even the score up at 14-14 as the two teams went into the locker room tied.

The third quarter favored the Sagehens as they shut out the Pioneers on defense and forced two turnovers in the quarter.

Sias found Hunter for 28 yards to take a 20-14 lead and then after an interception, Sias came back with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Odermann to extend the lead to 34-14.

The Pioneers made a comeback attempt late in the fourth as they scored on a 33-yard touchdown pass with 4:15 remaining, but the Sagehens built too much of a lead as they came away with the road win.

Up Next: The Sagehens will return home as they next host non-conference opponent George Fox on Saturday, September 15th at 5:00 p.m.
