ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team took down Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman 3-1 on Saturday night at the Hutton Center.

Set Scores: (26-24, 9-25, 25-15, 25-16)

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 6-12 overall and 3-3 in SCIAC play while the Panthers fall to 11-5 overall and suffer just their second loss in SCIAC play to drop to 5-2.

The Sagehens were led by sophomore Isabel Kelly who had a game-high 12 kills in the win while freshman Kayla Krilove chipped in with nine and sophomore Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong and freshman Makylee Fruge had seven each. Senior Jessica Finn led the Sagehens as she dished out a season-high 29 assists and senior Natalie Martin led the team with 18 digs.

The Sagehens went into Chapman to face the No. 1 team in the SCIAC standings after suffering a loss to the second place team in the SCIAC at home the night before and they came out with a bang as they stayed with the Panthers early on in the first set. Chapman began to pull away as they led 19-14 but the Sagehens rallied back to tie the set at 22-22 and went on to score four-straight to end the set and take a 1-0 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer stayed with Chapman early in the second set but the Panthers took off with 13 of the last 14 points to win set two.

After losing big in set two, the Sagehens came back out as a different team as they began the match up to a 16-9 lead and then went on a five-point spree with four service aces coming from senior Sophie Janssen to go up 21-11. The Sagehens closed out the third with a kill by Addo-Ashong and went up 2-1 over the Panthers.

Pomona-Pitzer and Chapman were locked in a tight battle in set four as they were deadlocked at 14-14 just over midway through a crucial set in the match but the Sagehens went on to score six-straight points to go up 20-14 and finished off Chapman just moments later to win set four 25-16 and complete the upset on the road.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next return home as they host SCIAC opponent Occidental on Friday, October 6th at 7:00 p.m.
