CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Sagehens battled to a five set victory against St. John Fisher in their opening match of day two of the Pacific Coast Classic. 

Pomona-Pitzer dropped their second match against Trinity putting their record at 2-2 to start the year.

The Sagehens split their games yesterday beating Rhodes College in four sets and losing to Union College in five.

Match 1: Pomona-Pitzer 3, St. John Fisher 2

The Sagehens overcame a sluggish start and rallied to win the final two sets to grab the win over St. John Fisher 19-25, 25-18, 28-30, 25-17, 15-10.

Isabel Kelly and Julia Zwaal led the attack for Pomona-Pitzer each finishing with double digit kills. Kelly followed up her strong performance from yesterday's matches with 12 kills and 10 digs. Zwaal finished with 11 kills and 13 digs.

Pomona-Pitzer nearly took a 2-1 lead but lost a heated third set 30-28 before putting away the final two sets.

Stephanie Sun had a solid game with 17 digs, eight kills and two aces. Setter Jessica Finn dished out 33 assists and had 11 digs.

Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong chipped in six kills and Sarah Gamble finished with five. Natalie Martin totalled 14 digs. 

Match 2: Trinity 3, Pomona-Pitzer 0

The Sagehens faced a talented Trinity team in their final game of the tournament falling 25-19, 25-18, 25-18.

Christine Covode tied a team-high six kills.

Martin led defensively with 18 digs followed by Zwaal who had eight digs to go along with six kills. Gamble added four kills of her own. 

Finn finished with 13 assits and seven digs.

Next Game: The Sagehens travel to Thousand Oaks next weekend to play in the Posada Royale Invitational. Pomona-Pitzer will play East Texas Baptist at 3 p.m. and Puget Sound at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by games on Saturday against UC Santa Cruz at 11:30 a.m. and Wisconsin-Whitewater at 4 p.m.
