Claremont, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead and held off an aggressive second half attack by the Kingsmen, winning 4-3 Wednesday afternoon. 

Season Impact: Pomona-Pitzer improves to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in SCIAC play. They currently sit in fourth place in the conference.

Cal Lutheran falls to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the SCIAC.

Sophomore Aidan Ferrer started the scoring early in the game, grabbing a pass from Voja Maric and sneaking past the keeper, to give the Sagehens the lead just over three minutes into the match.

Five minutes later, the Kingsmen attempted a corner kick and Pomona-Pitzer keeper Ben Mitchell knocked the ball out of the box setting up a counter attack. The Sagehens hustled down the field on a two-on-one advantage and Connor Ford found Peter Rentzepis who put the ball away in the top right corner of the goal.

It looked like the Sagehens would run away with the game when Voja Maric gathered the ball after Cal Lutheran keeper Sergio Esquivel stopped a penalty kick by Rentzepis, and found the back of the net.

Senior Felipe Galvis added another goal, breaking away with just over a minute left in the period to give Pomona-Pitzer a 4-0 advantage into the break.

But the Kingsmen would not stop fighting, playing an aggressive attack in the final period, pressuring the Pomona-Pitzer defense with 16 shots.

Junior keeper Ben Mitchell recorded seven saves in the second half alone including back-to-back diving saves in the 64th and 67th minutes to preserve the win.
