WHITTIER, Calif. – Sarah Gamble was efficient at the net, and the Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team stayed perfect in SCIAC play, defeating Whittier College in four sets, 25-15, 21-25, 25-14, 25-19, on the road Tuesday night. 

Season Impact: The Sagehens are on a two game win-streak and improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC play. They are currently in a three-way tie for first with No. 2 ranked CMS and No. 4 ranked Cal Lutheran.

The Poets fall to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the SCIAC. 

Gamble made the most of her attacks in the match, finishing with eight kills on .583 hitting. The senior also notched four total blocks, two service aces, and two digs.

As a team, the Sagehens finished with an impressive .405 killing percentage on the night. They hit an outstanding .600 in the third set and .630 in the final set.

Three Sagehens finished the match with double digit kills, led by sophomore Julia Zwaal. Zwaal was her usual self, leading all players with 18 kills to go with seven digs and and a team-high three service aces. Zwaal currently ranks fourth in the SCIAC with 118 total kills.

Isabel Kelly had 13 kills in the match. Kelly ranks second among freshmen in the conference with 100 total kills. Kelly also had two blocks and an ace. Stephanie Sun finished the night with 10 kills, eight digs, and a pair of aces.

Sophie Janssen had a game-high 20 digs. Junior Jessica Finn totalled 33 assists and freshman Jackie Roland had 12 assists. Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong put down five kills.

Next Match: Pomona-Pitzer returns home this Friday to face the Redlands Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
