Men's Soccer: Sagehens Fall On The Road To Chapman, 1-0

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Chapman 1-0 on Monday night at  Wilson Field.

Pomona-Pitzer falls to 3-4 overall on the year and 2-3 in conference play. The Panthers move their record to 5-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference.

The Sagehens' defense played another well fought match as this marks the third-straight SCIAC match that Pomona-Pitzer has only surrendered one goal.

Junior Ben Mitchell helped keep the Sagehens in the match as he tallied six saves against Chapman and stopped some very good scoring opportunities to keep Pomona-Pitzer in the match.

The Panthers scored the only goal of the game when a corner by the Chapman offense set up Cole Peters as he took a shot just outside the box that found the back of the net to give Chapman a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute.

The Pomona-Pitzer offense took 11 shots in the match with nine of them on goal but could not capitalize on their scoring chances against the Panthers.

The Sagehens had a good chance in the final seconds to even the score and send the game into overtime as senior Chase Abelson had a last second shot that was knocked away by goal keeper Sean Augustine and the Panthers survived for the 1-0 win.

Up Next: The Sagehens will continue SCIAC play as they next host Occidental on Saturday, September 24th at 11:00 a.m.
