Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team won their second-straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match with a 3-0 win over Occidental on Saturday afternoon.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by sophomore Peri Cuppens who tallied her first multi-goal match of the season as she found the net twice against Occidental.
The Sagehens got their third shutout as a team on the year with freshman Isa Berardo getting her second win of the season.
The Pomona-Pitzer defense slowed down the Tigers' offense in the first half and limited them to only four shots with three of them coming on goal.
The Sagehens broke through the Occidental defense in the 32nd minute as sophomore Sara Sherburne set up Cuppens for her first goal of the game to put Pomona-Pitzer on top 1-0.
The defense tightened up for the Sagehens and the offense began to take over possession in the second half. The Tigers' defense gave up a costly turn over that allowed freshman Bria VarnBuhler to find Cuppens who blasted a ball just outside the box that found the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
Pomona-Pitzer tacked on one more goal late in the second half as junior Natasha Thornton-Clark headed in a corner from junior Sofia Barsher to push the lead to 3-0 and sealed the win for the Sagehens.
The Sagehens next host SCIAC opponent Whittier on Wednesday, September 21st at 4:00 p.m.
