Box Score CLAREMONT, Calif. – Alaina Woo scored 16 points and the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team had three players in double figures.
But the Sagehens couldn't overcome UC Santa Cruz's hot shooting, falling 83-55 to the Banana Slugs Friday night in their opening game of the David Wells Classic.
Woo, who was coming off a historic game on Tuesday when she scored a school record 37 points against Linfield, brought in five rebounds to go along with her 16 points.
Keilani Ikehara totalled 14 points to go with two assists, two steals, and two rebounds.
Anita Romero had a big game off the glass, hauling in seven boards, six of them defensive. She also scored 13 points in the game.
The Banana Slugs lived beyond the arc launching 32 three-pointers and knocking down 16 of them in the game. UC Santa Cruz made seven threes in the first quarter to take a 27-12 lead at the end of the period.
The Sagehens closed the gap in the second quarter, aided by 54.5 percent shooting to go into the break down 41-30.
Kylee Rae Kim totalled five rebounds in the match.
Season Impact: The Sagehens fall to 0-4 overall, still searching for their first win of the 2016-17 season.
UC Santa Cruz improves to 1-3.
