Women's Soccer: Sagehens Fall to Chapman in PKs

Box Score

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 17 Pomona-Pitzer Women's soccer team had their chances in the second half against Chapman. But neither team could find the back of the net at the end of regulation and two overtimes, sending the match into penalty kicks.

The Panthers were able to score once during the penalty shots, at that was all they needed, edging out the Sagehens in the shootout 1-0 in the opening round of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Pomona-Pitzer will have to wait until 10:30 a.m. on Monday to see if they receive an at-large bid for the NCAA Playoffs which begin on November 12. The Sagehens, currently ranked third in the West Region, have a legitimate chance at moving forward. A link to view the selection show will be available at NCAA.com the day of the event.

Chapman advances to the SCIAC Championship between the winner of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Cal Lutheran this Saturday. CMS and Cal Lutheran play tonight at 7 p.m.

Nether team could seem to find the back of the net in the shootout, with the first seven shots failing to connect. On the Panthers' fourth attempt, Katie Bell was able to score the lone goal of the game.

The Sagehens finished the game with 19 total shots with 10 of them on goal. Corey Goelz finished the game with four saves with two additional stops during the shootout.
