Women's Soccer: Sagehens Roll on Senior Day

Box Score

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Alyssa Kim and Danika Bethune found the back of the net and the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team dominated the Chapman Panthers on their way to a 5-0 win on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-1-2 overall and 10-0-2 in the SCIAC, extending their first place lead. Pomona-Pitzer has won eight games in a row and have not been scored upon during the streak.

The Sagehens were not scored upon at home the entire regular season.

The Panthers drop to 8-7-1 and 5-6-1 in SCIAC play. Chapman is currently in fourth place in the SCIAC.

Today's game marked the final regular season home game for Pomona-Pitzer's seven seniors. The group has amassed 46 wins during their career and have already surpassed the record for most wins ever for a class.

The seniors made their mark today with Kim and Bethune each scoring goals and Agueda Dudley-Berrios, Nadia Alaiyan, and Bethune each tacking on an assist.

Bethune and Kim had a senior to senior connection in the 60th minute for the opening goal of the second half, extending the Sagehens lead to 3-0.

Four minutes later, Dudley-Berrios and Bethune made it another all-senior play, putting the lead at 4-0.

Senior keeper Corey Goelz needed just two saves in the game, but that was enough to move her into a tie for the best save percentage in Division III with .958.

Goelz had a relatively easy day in part because of stellar defense by senior defender Jamie Kerester and senior midfielder Katie Tao.

Abby Onderwyzer Gold gave Pomona-Pitzer the opening lead, gathering a rebound off a shot by Alaiyan, and beating the keeper to the left side of the net.

Peri Cuppens extended the lead to 2-0 just three minutes after checking into the game off an assist from Alaiyan.

Natasha Thornton-Clark capped off the scoring with 15 minutes left in the game off an assist from Sofia Barsher

Next Match: Pomona-Pitzer has just two SCIAC games remaining, both away. Next up, the Sagehens travel to Redlands to face the Bulldogs in a 7 p.m. match next Wednesday. Pomona-Pitzer beat Redlands 6-0 earlier this year.
