Men's Water Polo: No. 19 Sagehens Go 2-0 At Lancer Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team won both of their matches in the Lancer Invitational with a 19-10 win over Citrus College and a 16-7 win over Concordia.

The Sagehens were led by sophomore Adam Ward and senior Timmy Hardman who each tallied three goals in the win over Citrus.

Pomona-Pitzer opened up the match with six of the first eight goals as Ward, senior Timmy Hardman, freshman Joseph Schafer, senior Tommy Turner and freshman Cade Curry all found the back of the net to take a 6-3 lead after the first.

The Sagehens posted a shutout in the second period and pushed their lead to 11-3 at halftime after second period goals from Hardman, junior Mark Hallman, senior James Baker and freshman Sam Gorcey-Biblowitz.

Citrus came out and played a much more competitive second half as they only were outscored by the Sagehens 4-3 in the third period and tied Pomona-Pitzer 4-4 in the fourth.

The Sagehens kept their offense going in the second half as Ward, Hallman, Curry and freshman Pedro Martinez all scored goals in the third and Baker, Martinez and senior Ian Jaime found the back of the net in the fourth.

Pomona-Pitzer then faced off against Concordia in game two of its doubleheader.

The Sagehens were led by senior James Baker who had a season-high four goals in the win against Concordia.

Concordia scored the first goal of the match but the Sagehens responded with four-straight goals by Schafer, Turner, Gorcey-Biblowitz and freshman Jacob Niskey as they held a 4-2 lead after the first.

The Sagehens came out in the second period and outscored the Eagles 4-3 after goals from Baker, Sophomore Max Ries and Ward as Pomona-Pitzer held an 8-5 lead going into halftime.

The Pomona-Pitzer defense stepped up in the second half and only allowed two goals in the third period and junior goal keeper Daniel Diemer posted a shutout in the fourth.

The Sagehens outscored the Eagles 8-2 in the second half and held on to end the Lancer Invitational with a perfect 2-0 record.

Pomona-Pitzer will next host the annual Gary Troyer Invitational beginning on Friday, October 7th
