Chapman Controls Pomona-Pitzer in Three Straight for Win

Box Score

Claremont, Calif. - Chapman University's women's volleyball team won three straight to defeat Pomona-Pitzer Tuesday evening in Voelkel Gym. With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC -- with both losses to the Panthers. Pomona-Pitzer fell to Chapman in a five-setter last Friday. Chapman improves to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC. In tonight's match, set scores were 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.

For Chapman, Michele Hammer (15 kills) and Kylie Cooke (12 kills) carried the load, while Pomona-Pitzer was led by junior outside hitter Stephanie Sun's 11 kills (pictured), and senior Emma Burdekin (10 kills). Michelle Schultz's 15 digs led the team, but a red-hot Chapman squad repeatedly shut down any Sagehen rally.

Pomona-Pitzer travels this weekend to the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Invitational in Pittsburgh for four matches. The Sagehens face Case Western and Mt. Union on Friday, and then return Saturday for matches against host Carnegie Mellon and John Carroll.
