Sagehens Blank Redlands with Scoring Barrage

Box Score

Claremont, Calif. - A 6-goal scoring barrage in the second half gave Pomona-Pitzer's women's soccer team its first SCIAC victory Wednesday as the Sagehens blanked Redlands, 7-0, at home. With the victory, Pomona-Pitzer moves to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in SCIAC, while Redlands falls to 3-1-1 overall and 2-1 in SCIAC.

After over 40 minutes of tough scoreless play, Nadia Alaiyan opened the scoring with a penalty kick late in the opening half to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead at the break. Alyssa Kim then started off the second stanza with two quick goals only a minute into play -- and only 18 seconds apart. Next Peri Cuppens (pictured) blasted a rebound shot in, and the rout was on. Danika Bethune scored twice in sucession before Cuppens added a gorgeous curler from 25 yards out into the top right corner of the net.

Pomona-Pitzer tallied a massive 29 shots on goal.

"It was a great all around performance where everything just clicked," shared Head Coach Jen Scanlon. "We played solid defense, possessed well, created lots of chances and finished well. When it all comes together for us, we can compete with anybody."

Pomona-Pitzer hosts Occidental Saturday at 10:00am.
