Claremont, Calif. - Danika Bethune scored her third goal of the season, but it wasn't enough to overcome a hat trick from Taylor Venegas as the Biola Women's Soccer team spoiled the Pomona-Pitzer 30th Anniversary Alumni Game with a 3-1 win on Saturday.

The loss drops Pomona-Pitzer to 2-2 on the season, while Biola, an NAIA program, improves to 4-0-1 on the year.

All of the scoring took place in the second half, after the teams played to a 0-0 opening stanza. Just two minutes after intermission, Venegas scored her first of three goals from the left edge of the box as she got in behind the defense and tucked a shot past onrushing Pomona-Pitzer goalie Annie Wedel at the 46:34.

The Sagehens got the goal back four minutes later as freshman Sabrina Wilk got to a loose ball in the box and played a short pass to Bethune, who tucked a low shot under goalie Amanda Johnson to level things 1-1. 

Venegas would break the tie, though, three minutes later after Jessie Burns played her in behind the Pomona-Pitzer defense and Wedel couldn't quite reach the shot with a dive to her left. Venegas would add an insurance goal with just over one minute left in regulation to seal it. 

Junior goalie Corey Goelz had three first half saves for Pomona-Pitzer, while Johnson finished with six for Biola.

"We need to be a lot sharper," said Head Coach Jen Scanlon. "They are a very good team and they took advantage when we made our mistakes. It wasn't our best performance, but we can learn from this moving forward. We have important stuff ahead that we'll be ready for."

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Wednesday for a road game at Whittier, beginning at 7 p.m.
