Shorthanded Sagehens Battle CMS Close, Fall 66-57

Box Score

Claremont, Calif. - Playing with only seven players, the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team gave SCIAC unbeaten CMS a strong battle before falling 66-57 at the Linde Activities Center on the campus of Harvey Mudd.

Sophomore forward Basha Brulee-Wills had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Sagehens for her 11th double-double in 14 conference games this year, while Amelia Hummel and Alaina Woo each added 12.  Kris Brackmann led CMS (21-3, 15-0 SCIAC) with 16 points.

CMS led by 12 at the half after Kailee Severt hit a three-pointer on the last possession to make the score 34-22, and then Brackmann started the second half with a three-pointer to push the lead to 37-22. The Sagehens got the lead back down to 11 at 39-28 on a McKenna VanderKley jumper, but CMS was able to build it up to 53-34 on back-to-back three-pointers from Jai Dungca.

The Sagehens kept fighting, though, and got the lead all the way down to six points after Woo hit a three-pointer with 1:47 left and Brulee-Wills added two foul shots to make the score 63-57. CMS, though, was able to make their foul shots down the stretch and hold on for the nine-point win.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action this weekend for a road game at Redlands.
