Box Score Orange, Calif. - After playing to a tie through two regulation halves and two over time periods Saturday, and then awaiting the outcomes of other evening SCIAC games, Pomona-Pitzer's women's soccer team advances to the SCIAC Tournament that begins Thursday.
Pomona-Pitzer, seeded #4, will play in the SCIAC semi-finals Thursday at Redlands, seeded #1, at 7:00pm. #2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps meets #3 Cal Lutheran in the other semi-final. The SCIAC Tournament Final will be played on Saturday, Nov. 7, site to be determined.
At Chapman Saturday, Pomona-Pitzer led, 2-0, at halftime after Danika Bethune's unassisted goal from 15 yards out just four minutes into the game. Abby Onderwyzer Gold scored in the 17th minute from 15 yards out on an assist from Alyssa Kim.
In the second half, Chapman came out strong, scoring three straight goals to lead, 3-2, with just 10 minutes in regulation. But Bethune (pictured) scored a second unassisted goal from 10 yards out -- her shot sliding by the goalie in the 85th minute to knot the score. Neither team scored in the two overtime periods in the final regular season conference game for both squads.
Chapman outshot Pomona-Pitzer, 11-7, and Sagehen goalie Annie Wedel recorded 4 saves.
Pomona-Pitzer stands at 9-8-1 overall and 7-6-1 in SCIAC.
