Box Score CLAREMONT, CA: Pomona-Pitzer picked up its second sweep of the week with a 3-0 victory over Austin College on Saturday afternoon in Voelkel Gymanisum.
Coming off a hard-fought loss to #23 La Verne only the night before, the Sagehens (8-6, 3-3 SCIAC) bounced back in a strong way, easily controlling the first two sets 25-16 and 25-17 before gritting out a 25-23 third set win to clinch the sweep over the Roos (13-9, 4-3 SCAC). Pomona-Pitzer would not trail in the match until losing the first point of the third set and by never more than one in a comfortable yet exciting victory.
Junior Stephanie Sun continued her strong offensive week by compiling a game high 17 kills to go with five digs and one service ace. Freshman Sophie Janssen (pictured) provided quality balance for the Sagehens by totaling an even 10 kills and 10 digs while Sophomore Kate Porter added in eight kills, four digs, and one service ace on the day.
"I was really happy to see the girls bounce back so well today after such a draining game last night" said head coach Valerie Townsend. "Our energy and focus were strong today and helped us set a tone early that I felt carried us through the three sets. The biggest focus is just to keep improving every practice and match and I feel as if the steps forward we're taking as a team are putting us in position to make some noise at the end of the season."
The Sagehens will be on the road to Thousand Oaks on Tuesday as they will take on #6 Cal Lutheran at 7:30pm.
