Sagehens Run Wild in 8-1 Win over Caltech

Box Score

CLAREMONT, CA: Pomona-Pitzer broke out of an offensive drought in bold fashion Saturday afternoon scoring eight goals en route to an 8-1 victory over Caltech.

Tallying only two goals over the last 3 games, the Sagehens (4-5-2, 4-3-1 SCIAC) got on the board early and often starting with Freshman Aidan Ferrer's first two career goals in the 11th and 12th minutes. Ferrer would also get the assist on Junior Voja Maric's header goal in the 25th minute to total five points within the first 26 minutes action. While the Beavers (0-8, 0-8) would get on the board in the 29'on a penalty kick to cut the lead to 3-1, the Sagehens would rattle off five unanswered goals to close out the match ahead 8-1.

Senior Captain Mark Raftrey (pictured) compiled his first career multi-goal game by tallying two (44' & 72') while Senior Andrew Capron (74') and Freshman Bjorn Sigurdsson (70') netted their first careers goals to add to the individual milestones on the day. Sophomore Peter Rentzepis rounded out the scorers for the Sagehens by netting his third goal of the season in the 67th minute off of passes from Maric and Siggurdson. Maric finished the day with three assists, the most in a game for a Sagehen since 2008 and propelling into a tie for fifth place in the SCIAC this season.

The 8 goals scored by Pomona-Pitzer were the most since October 19, 2011 when the Sagehens defeated Caltech 8-0.

"I thought we did a great job of executing our strategy for the match today" said head coach Bill Swartz. "For the first time in a few matches we were able to connect on more than one or two of our passes. We have been working on this with a young team and hope that we can continue to look to share the ball and play with more creativity on offense. This will be vital as we move into the second half of our SCIAC season."

Pomona-Pitzer will take the trip down Highway 101 on Monday as they take on Cal Lutheran at 7pm. Links for Live Stats and Video for Monday's match can be found on the Pomona-Pitzer Athletics Website.
