Volleyball Drops Occidental in Three Straight

Claremont, Calif. - Behind 10 kills each from Sarah Gamble (pictured) and Julia Zwaal, Pomona-Pitzer's women's volleyball team defeated Occidental, 3-0, Friday evening at home in Voelkel Gym.

Pomona-Pitzer now stands at 9-10 overall, and 4-6 in SCIAC, while Occidental falls to 8-9 and 4-6. Set scores were all in favor of the Sagehens: 26-24, 25-16, and 25-17. 

Behind Gamble's and Zwaal's team-leading kills, Kate Porter added eight kills and Stephanie Sun tallied seven. Zwaal also recorded three service aces, Gamble had five blocks, and Michelle Schultz had 20 digs. 

Pomona-Pitzer hosts Southwestern (TX) Saturday evening at 6:00pm in a non-conference match. The Pirates, ranked 14th nationally, are 21-2 on the season, including a 3-2 win over 10th-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and a 3-0 win over Chapman Friday. The Sagehens resume SCIAC play on Tuesday at home against Redlands at 7:30pm.
