Box Score Claremont, Calif. - Allie Frappier had 18 kills in 34 attempts as the Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team took a 3-0 decision from Occidental on Friday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Set scores were 25-22, 25-16, 25-13 as Pomona-Pitzer improves to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the SCIAC with the win. Occidental falls to 1-11 and 0-4 in league play.
Freshman Kate Porter (pictured) and senior Kirea Mazzolini also added identical attacking lines of six kills in 11 attempts with one error for a .455 hitting percentage.
The only tight game was the first as Occidental was able to come back from a big Sagehen lead to pull within 21-20. A service error and an attacking error gave Pomona-Pitzer a 23-20 lead, and Frappier responded to two Occidental points with emphatic kills to close out the set 25-22.
Sophomore Elizabeth Sun had 18 assists and freshman Jessica Finn added 15 for the Sagehens, while senior Ellen Yamasaki led the team in digs with 11. The Sagehens shot .323 as a team for the match, including .536 in the first set (17 kills in 28 attempts), while Occidental hit .538 and still came up short. Pomona-Pitzer's defense improved in the second two sets, holding the Tigers to .000 in the second and .040 in the third.
The Sagehens will return to action tomorrow for a Sixth Street rivalry match with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m., which will be held at Harvey Mudd's Linde Activities Center.
