Box Score Claremont, Calif. - Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Quesada-Diaz (center) had 10 kills in 11 attempts to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Caltech on Saturday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium.
With the win, Pomona-Pitzer improves to 11-6 overall and 5-3 in the SCIAC after a 3-0 week, defeating Redlands on Tuesday and Chapman on Friday.
Set scores were 25-6, 25-11, 25-11 as the Sagehens jumped out to big early leads in all three sets against Caltech, which falls to 0-12 overall and 0-7 in the SCIAC. In the first set, the Sagehens hit 13 of 15 with no errors, for an .867 hitting percentage and Pomona-Pitzer finished with only six errors overall in the match, while hitting .514
Stephanie Sun led Pomona-Pitzer with 11 kills in 19 attempts, while Sarah Gamble had nine kills in 13 attempts. Ellen Yamasaki added seven kills in 14 attempts. Jessica Finn had 15 assists and Elizabeth Sun chipped in with 12.
The Sagehens return to action next weekend for non-conference home matches against Nazareth, Widener and Endicott as part of the La Verne Invitational.
