Box Score Whittier, Calif. - Senior Amanda Coba scored a hat trick in the first 20 minutes of the game to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team to a 4-1 win over Whittier on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 9-5-4 overall and 7-2-4 in the SCIAC and clinch a berth in next week's SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Whittier falls to 1-16-1 overall and 0-13 in the league.
Coba, who scored her first goal of the season in a 3-0 win at Chapman on Saturday, scored at the 6:51, 8:44 and 18:05 marks to register a hat trick before the game was 20 minutes old. Her first and third goals both came off passes from freshman Natasha Thornton-Clark.
Freshman Sofia Barsher stretched the lead to 4-0 at the 28:54 mark of the first half as she scored an unassisted goal when she put in her own rebound after her initial attempt was saved by Whittier goalie Alexi Cruz.
From there, the Sagehens were content to protect their lead as 20 players saw game action. Whittier scored a late goal with 11:41 left from Maegan Garcia to spoil the shutout, but Pomona-Pitzer had the win and the SCIAC bid well in hand at that point.
The Sagehens will close out the regular season with a home game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 11 a.m. and will then find out its conference tournament opponent by the end of the day (Pomona-Pitzer will either face CMS on the road again or travel to Cal Lutheran). Saturday's game will also be Senior Day for Coba, Nicole Quilliam, Rachel Keyser and Sara Ach.
