Redlands Wins Defensive Battle With Sagehens

Claremont, Calif. - The Redlands Women's Basketball team held Pomona-Pitzer to just 17 first half points and pulled away for a 56-41 win over the Sagehens on Saturday evening at Voelkel Gymnasium.

With the win, Redlands improves to 11-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the SCIAC, remaining in first place. Pomona-Pitzer slips to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in the league with the loss.

Colleen Goeser led Redlands with 15 points, while Brittany Oster had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Pomona-Pitzer was led by freshman Basha Brulee-Wills (pictured), who had 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double of her own.

Neither team was able to generate much in the way of offense in the first half, as the Bulldogs led just 22-17 at the break. However, Kameran Dage hit two three-pointers in the first three minutes of the second half, and Kaity Lykins hit a pair of foul shots to make the score 30-20.

Two foul shots from sophomore forward Amelia Hummel had Pomona-Pitzer within 34-26 with 12 minutes to play, but Redlands answered with a 12-2 run, capped off by a Goeser jumper, to take its largest lead at 46-28.

Junior guard Ruthie Shapiro had seven points and eight rebounds for the Sagehens. Lykins had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Pomona-Pitzer returns to action on Thursday when it hosts Chapman for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
