Claremont, Calif. - Senior Allie Tao celebrated her Senior Day with her second straight hat trick as the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team set a new school record for wins in a season with a 6-0 win over Whittier on Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Stadium.

The win moves Pomona-Pitzer's record to 12-2-1 overall, passing the previous record for wins in a season set by the 2005 team which won a SCIAC title. The Sagehens are also now 10-2 in the SCIAC, in second place but still in control of its own destiny for at least a share of the league title. Whittier falls to 1-16 overall and 1-11 in the SCIAC with the loss.

Freshman Alyssa Kim scored the game-winner in the 34th minute after the Sagehens were frustrated early by the Whittier defense, and its offsides trap. Junior defender Rachel Keyser played a long ball out of the back, and Kim sprinted on to it near the top of the box, just beating Whittier goalie Alexi Cruz to the ball with a toe-poke that rolled into the net to make the score 1-0 late in the first half.

Whittier had a couple great chances to tie off the foot of All-SCIAC midfielder Madison Shipherd, as she had a potential tying goal called back due to offsides, and then had a point-blank shot saved by onrushing Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper Corey Goelz.

Freshman Agueda Dudley-Berrios stretched the lead to 2-0, just over nine minutes into the second half, when she took a corner kick and bent the ball over the head of a swarm of players inside the six, off the far post and into the net. Just seven minutes, later sophomore Julia Dohner added an insurance goal, when freshman Jamie Kerester played a cross from the right side, sophomore Mary Stafford flicked the ball in the goalmouth past Cruz, and Dohner was there at the far post to finish.

After that it was the Tao Show, as she scored three goals in a span of 6:16 to net a Senior Day hat trick, all of which came on breakaways through the Whittier defense. Keyser played her in the first time, she scored her second off a Poet turnover, and the third came off a pass from her younger sister Katie Tao, a freshman midfielder on the Sagehens.

With her three goals, Tao now has 10 this season, a career-best, and 27 in her four-year career. She also raised her career point total to 69, including 15 assists.

Goelz had two saves in 71 minutes before giving way to Annie Wedel for the final 19. Pomona-Pitzer had a 22-2 edge in shots on the day and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks, but were flagged 15 times for offsides by the Poets defense before finally being able to pull away for the win.

Pomona-Pitzer has one more regular season home game against Redlands on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before ending the regular season at SCIAC-leading Cal Lutheran, which edged the Sagehens 3-2 in overtime in the first meeting after tying the game with 1:28 left in regulation. If the Sagehens defeat Redlands at home, the winner of the Cal Lutheran game will be the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament.
