La Verne, Calif. - Senior midfielder Allie Tao scored the first of her two goals in the opening minutes of the first half and junior midfielder Amanda Coba (pictured) scored one minute into the second half as the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team took a 4-1 road win over La Verne on Saturday evening.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 8-2-1 overall on the year, and 6-2 in the SCIAC, bouncing back from an overtime loss to Cal Lutheran on Wednesday which dropped them out of a tie for first. La Verne falls to 6-7-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the conference with the loss.

Tao got Pomona-Pitzer on the board in the ninth minute when she found the back of the net from inside the box for an unassisted goal just 8:05 into the game. In the second half, Tao almost scored again in the opening minute, but La Verne goalie Delanie Pacheco was able to deflect the shot wide for a corner kick. The save proved to be for naught, though, as La Verne cleared the ensuring corner to the top of the 18, where Coba was able to blast it home inside the left post to stretch the lead to 2-0.

Tao stretched the lead to 3-0 with 18:28 remaining when she took a free kick from outside the left edge of the box and bent a shot inside the near post for her second goal of the game. Freshman Agueda Dudley-Berrios added a goal with 8:05 left, blasting a left-footed shot from inside the box inside the right post, to make the score 4-0. Katie Cariega scored with 20 seconds left for La Verne to spoil the Pomona-Pitzer shutout bid.

Sophomore Annie Wedel had four saves to get the win in goal, as the Sagehens finished with an 20-15 edge in shots. Pacheco had six saves for the Leopards in the loss.

The Sagehens will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Occidental for a 7 p.m. contest.
