Sagehens Fall To Pair Of Top Ten Teams

Claremont, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team continued its rough early-season schedule at the UC Irvine Invitational, falling to No. 1 UCLA and No. 8 Pepperdine.

With the losses, the Sagehens are now 3-14 on the year with nine losses to teams in the top 10 nationally, including two against UCLA, which Pomona-Pitzer opened the year against back on Sept. 7.

Freshman James Baker (pictured) had both Pomona-Pitzer goals in a 23-2 loss to UCLA, continuing his unusual success against top-ranked teams. Baker also had four of Pomona-Pitzer's six goals against USC when the Trojans were ranked No. 1 (a 24-6 USC win back on Sept. 14).

Junior Stephen Vint scored two goals in a 13-4 loss to Pepperdine, while senior Jarrod Gaut and junior Travis Larsen added one apiece.

Pomona-Pitzer completes play at the UC Irvine Invitational tomorrow, taking on either UC San Diego (ranked No. 13) or UC Davis (ranked No. 14) at 10:50 a.m., and then playing a final match in the evening against an opponent to be determined.
