Claremont, Calif - Madeline Barnes had 24 points and nine rebounds as the CMS Women's Basketball team captured a 71-49 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Thursday evening.

Senior guard Alexis Sones (Los Angeles, Calif. - pictured) finished with a team-high 14 points for the Sagehens, who fall to 3-12 overall and 3-6 in the SCIAC. CMS pulls even with Pomona-Pitzer in the SCIAC at 3-6, while moving to 7-11 overall.

The game was tight early, as a short Sones jumper made the score 18-15 with 7:34 left in the first half. However, Barnes hit a short jumper and a three-pointer to push the lead up to double figures, and Aria Krumwiede ended the first half with a long buzzer-beating three-pointer to stretch the lead up to 39-24 at the break.

Barnes finished with 17 points in the first half alone before ending with 24, as she was able to rest down the stretch with the game in hand. The second half saw CMS maintain a lead between 15-20 most of the way through, before finishing off with the 71-49 win.

Sones shot 5-9 from the field and hit both of her three-point attempts on her way to 14 points. Fellow senior Vanessa Ho (San Francisco, Calif.) provided a spark off the bench with 11 points and five steals, while freshmen Amelia Hummel (Glenview, Ill.) and Jenn Okonkwo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) each had nine. Krumweide was also in double figures for CMS with 15 points, while Mara Falahee pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Saturday, when it takes on Redlands for a 5 p.m. contest.
