Pomona-Pitzer Splits Two At Posada Royale Invitational

Thousand Oaks, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team defeated Wesley 3-0 Friday evening after falling to UC Santa Cruz 3-0 earlier in the afternoon, on the first day of the Posada Royale Invitational at Cal Lutheran.

With the split, the Sagehens move to 4-2 overall on the young season, after tallying a 3-1 record at its season-opening home tournament last weekend.

Pomona-Pitzer had an easy time against Wesley, winning the three games 25-17, 25-10 and 25-11. Earlier, the Sagehens struggled in the first game against UC Santa Cruz, but battled tougher in the second two games before falling 25-12, 25-20 and 25-21.

Freshman Michelle Schultz continued the strong start to her collegiate career, as she was a bright spot for the Sagehens in the Santa Cruz defeat, tallying 11 kills in 29 attempts without an error, while also added 10 digs.

In the win over Wesley, the Sagehens committed only eight attacking errors in the entire contest. Hannah Wayment-Steele had a team-high nine kills, while sophomore Ellen Yamasaki added eight (with no errors) and Schultz chipped in with seven.

The Sagehens conclude play at Cal Lutheran's Posada Royale Invitational tomorrow with matches against Macalaster at 12 noon and Hardin-Simmons at 6 p.m.
