Box Score Claremont, Calif. - Alex Bell and Curtis Tanquary each rushed for over 100 yards and three touchdowns as the Redlands Football team earned a 70-0 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon at Merritt Field.
Redlands improves to 5-3 overall and 5-1 in the SCIAC with the win. Pomona-Pitzer drops to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the SCIAC win the defeat.
Bell ended the day with 12 carries for 121 yards and three touchdowns, including a 60-yard run to make the score 14-0 with 7:22 left in the first quarter. Tanquary had 16 carries for 109 yards and three touchdowns of 21, 6 and 7 yards, with one scoring run in each of the first three quarters. As a team, Redlands has 336 rushing yards (out of its 518 yards of total offense).
Pomona-Pitzer was without leading running back Luke Sweeney (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and leading receiver Yoshi Rothman (La Jolla, Calif.) to injury, and played the final 55 minutes without starting quarterback Luke Ferguson (Silverton, Ore.). Senior safety Duncan Hussey (Seattle, Wash.), who played both ways last week and had 218 yards receiving in a loss at Occidental, only played defense, finishing with seven tackles.
Freshman wide receiver Jack Pietrykowski (Orinda, Calif. - pictured, photo courtesy of D3photography.com) had four catches for 33 yards, and senior running back Michael Schwartz (Seattle, Wash.) had 48 yards on 20 carries. Defensively, sophomore safety Don Swan (Gold Beach, Ore.) had 16 tackles (seven solo), two games after having 18 tackles in a road loss at La Verne.
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Saturday for its annual Peace Pipe game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 1 p.m. to close out the 2012 season. Sweeney, Rothman, Ferguson and Hussey will be honored prior to the game for Senior Day, along with linebacker Jake Rollins (Simi Valley, Calif.) and defensive lineman Colin Mitchell (Shrewsbury, N.J.)
