Box Score Whittier, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team took a 31-29 win in the first game on Saturday at Whittier, but the Poets regrouped to win in four games.
Game scores were 29-31, 25-22, 25-10 and 25-21 as Whittier rode the hot hand of Alyssa Sialaris (30 kills in 62 attempts) for the win to improve to 8-10 overall and 3-6 in the SCIAC.
Pomona-Pitzer was led by sophomore outside hitter Ellen Yamasaki (Salinas, Calif. - pictured) with 13 kills as it fell to 8-10 overall and 3-7 in the SCIAC.
The Sagehens played for the third straight match without leading hitter Michelle Schultz (Chicago, Ill.) due to injury, going to 0-3 without her with losses to CMS, La Verne and Whittier.
Sophomore middle hitter Samantha Cahill (Vancouver, Wash.) had seven hills as the second option, while sophomore middle hitter Maria Weyhrauch (Juneau, Alaska) had a strong game defensive with six blocks (two solo) to go along with four kills.
Senior libero Lauren Kim (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) had 17 digs defensively, followed closely by setter Dani Kritter (Culpepper, Va.) with 15 (to go along with 22 assists) and Yamasaki with 14. Alayna Rigo had 16 kills for the Poets to support Sialaris.
Pomona-Pitzer will return to action on Tuesday at Cal Lutheran before having two matches at home next Saturday, against Caltech at 11 a.m. and Occidental at 5 p.m.
