Claremont, Calif. - Senior Jason Cox (Arnold, Md.) scored a season-high five goals, and senior Cody Moore (San Dimas, Calif. - pictured) added three as the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team built a big lead and held on for an 11-7 win over Redlands on Wednesday night at Haldeman Pool to remain undefeated in conference play.

The win improves Pomona-Pitzer's record to 8-12 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the SCIAC, while Redlands slips to 3-17 overall and 1-2 in league play.  

Cox had three goals in the first quarter to stake Pomona-Pitzer to a quick 4-0 lead. However, with the score 6-2 in the Sagehens favor, Patrick Roth scored for Redlands with just one second left in the half to cut the lead to 6-3. The Bulldogs kept that momentum up in the second half with the first two goals to pull within 6-5.

Cox, though, stemmed the tide with a man-up goal to make the score 7-5, and after Clint Freeman scored on a lob to pull the Bulldogs back within one, Cox scored his fifth of the night to give Pomona-Pitzer an insurance goal. Moore then scored off a pass from Neil Forsythe with 37 seconds left in the third quarter to make the score 9-6, his second goal of the night.

Moore then effectively put the game away with the first goal of the fourth quarter, finding the upper-right corner to make the score 10-6 with 6:46 left. Jarrod Gaut (Irvine, Calif.) extended the run to 4-0 to give Pomona-Pitzer its largest lead of the night at 11-6, before Quinn Curl finally answered wiith a goal for Redlands, but too late to start a comeback.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action next Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home match against Whittier, which also stayed perfect in the SCIAC today (4-0) with a win over Cal Lutheran.
