Box Score Claremont, Calif. – Junior Erin Toothaker (Portland, Ore. - pictured) and freshman Ellen Yamasaki (Salinas, Calif.) both had near-perfect days attacking as the Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Caltech on Friday evening at the Rains Center.
Set scores were 25-5, 25-8 and 25-15 as the Sagehens improve to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the SCIAC. Caltech slips to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the SCIAC with the loss.
Toothaker had six kills in eight attempts with no errors, and Yamasaki had five kills in seven attempts with no errors, as the Sagehens had 34 kills in 74 attempts as a team. Hannah Wayment-Steele (Flagstaff, Ariz.) had six kills in nine attempts with one error, and sophomore Sophie Tweed-Simmons (Beverly Hills, Calif.) had six kills in 12 attempts with no errors.
Sophomore Nicole Bauthier (San Rafael, Calif.) helped the Sagehens finish off the match with four kills in five attempts in the third set. Senior libero Heidi Leonard (Del Mar, Calif.) had a match-high 14 digs, while Paige Logan had nine digs and three kills for Caltech.
Pomona-Pitzer returns to action tomorrow when it completes its two-match weekend with a 1 p.m. contest at SCIAC-leading Cal Lutheran.
