Box Score

By Nathan Barnett, PO '11

CLAREMONT -- The Sagehens (4-18, 2-9 SCIAC) came up short in their attempt to win back-to-back games after their victory over Caltech on Thursday night, losing to the Occidental Tigers (14-8, 9-2 SCIAC) 88-42. Occidental showed why their are at the top of the SCIAC conference, shooting nearly 50% from the floor including 10-for-13 from beyond the three point line.

The Sagehens swiped the ball away 9 times, Emi Hashizume (FR, San Mateo) and Emily Van Gulik (SR, Evergreen, CO) grabbing three a peice, but it wasn't enough to beat the Tigers, as Occidental out rebounded the Pomona-Pitzer by a 42-19 margin. They scored early and often in transition against a shallow Sagehen team that came into the game with only nine active players on the roster.

Van Gulik, continuing her stellar season, had 15 points and 10 rebounds, leading all players in both categories. Hashizume put up 11 on 8-of-8 free throw shooting, as she continues her excellent freshman campaign, leading the conference in free throw percentage and ranking near the top in points per game and three-point makes per game.

The Sagehens go on the road to face La Verne (9-13, 6-5 SCIAC) and Redlands (14-8, 8-3 SCIAC) before returning home to close the season again CMS (17-5, 7-4 SCIAC) on February 22.
