Box Score Whittier, Calif. – Sophomore midfielder Allie Tao (Alamo, Calif. - pictured) had a goal and an assist to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team to a 2-1 road win over Whittier on Monday evening.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the SCIAC, while Whittier slips to 1-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play. The game was originally scheduled for last Wednesday, but was postponed due to rain.
Tao got Pomona-Pitzer started with a goal just 10:23 into the game, as she was able to dribble past Whittier goalkeeper Shanna Falch and tap the ball into the empty net for her fifth goal of the season. The Poets answered back, though, on a goal in the 24th minute, as Madison Shipherd scored on a feed from Meghan Velasquez to pull Whittier back even at 1-1.
The score remained unchanged until just three minutes left in the half, when Tao's crossing pass deflected off a Whittier player and found senior forward Traci Lopez (Sante Fe, N.M.) in the box, who was able to tap it in for her team-leading eighth goal of the year.
Tao has actually had a hand in all six Sagehen goals in their last two conference wins. She also had three goals and an assist in a 4-3 road win over Occidental on Sept. 28.
Pomona-Pitzer finished with a 11-7 edge in shots on the day, including a 7-3 edge in shots on net. Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Wolfarth (Arlington, Va.) had two saves to get the win for the Sagehens, while Falch had five saves for the Poets.
The Sagehens will next be in action when they host La Verne on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest.
