Box Score After two weekends of tournaments, Pomona-Pitzer hit the road to
play the Panthers of Chapman University. The opening set was
a struggle as the Hens hit zero in the 14-25 loss. In true
Hen fashion, they bounced back to take sets two and three
convincingly at 25-18 and 25-8 behind the strong serving of Kenzie Aries, Jordan Hammond and Beth Smilkstein. Aries started the
third set off with an 8-point run before the Panthers were able to
side out. In the two middle sets, Carly Hite led the team
with 9 kills while Hammond tallied 6. The team hit .237
(12-3-38) to Chapman's .154 (16-6-39) in set two with a much
more dramatic difference of .357 (12-2-28) to -.139 (5-10-36) in
set three, which was brought on by the tough serving of the
Sagehens.
The fourth set was a see-saw battle with eleven ties and seven
lead changes. The balanced attack from Hammond (4 kills),
Hughes (3 kills) and Hite (3 kills) helped the Sagehens come away
with the victory. Hite led the attack with 14 kills (team
high .208 hitting percentage) and 7 digs, with Hammond close behind
with 11 kills and 4 service aces. Eleanor Hughes added 10
kills, 11 digs and 2 blocks for her seventh double-double of the
season. Kenzie Aries had 32 assists and libero Heidi Leonard
