Box Score This Saturday marked the third game of the season for the
Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team. After starting the season
with a victory over U.C. Santa Cruz and an upsetting loss in golden
goal overtime to Concordia, the Sagehens were looking for a win
against the Chapman Panthers.
Chapman came out strong, earning nine shots in the first half to
Pomona-Pitzer's six. One of the Panther's shots near the end
of the first half was saved beautifully by freshman goalkeeper
Talia Shulman. A followup shot from another Panther player
was again blocked by the freshman and finally cleared out by a
Sagehen defender.
The second half was equally as exciting with many great saves by
Chapman keeper Chloe Canta. The turning point in the game
came in the 75th minute when Sagehen senior Katie Kerr found the
back of the net with a left-footed rip after beating a Chapman
defender. During the last fifteen minutes of the game,
Pomona-Pitzer played great team defense to keep the Panthers from
tying the game. The Sagehens notched their third consecutive
shutout in regulation and improve to 2-1.
Their next match is a home game against the Whittier Poets at
4pm on Wednesday September 15th.
