Margeaux Gupilan joined the Pomona-Pitzer women’s basketball staff in the summer of 2021 and is currently in her fifth season with the Sagehens. In her tenure, she has played an instrumental role alongside Head Coach Alania Woo in the team’s success, including contributing to a SCIAC championship appearance in the 2021-22 season and helping the team secure a top-four finish in the 2024-25 SCIAC Semifinals. As a key member of the coaching staff, Gupilan’s responsibilities encompass recruiting, opponent scouting, game preparation and mangement, and skill development, particularly in refining the craft of forward and post players. With a deep understanding of the game and a profound passion for teaching, she has honed a reputation as a coach who doesn’t just improve the physical abilities of players but also shapes their basketball IQ and mental toughness.

Before her time at Pomona-Pitzer, Gupilan served as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Long Beach State women’s basketball program during the 2018-19 season. In this capacity, she managed the logistical and operational aspects of the program, overseeing travel coordination, equipment, academic support, video analysis, and acting as the primary liaison between the coaching staff and players. Her work was pivotal in streamlining operations and ensuring the program’s daily success.

Gupilan’s coaching career was launched at SUNY Brockport, where she spent three seasons first assistant for the Golden Eagles. Under her tutelage, the program experienced a remarkable resurgence making three consecutive playoff appearances, with a standout 2017-18 season that saw the program earn its third consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament appearance. During this time, Gupilan developed three All-Conference athletes and helped guide two guards to All-SUNYAC honors in the 2015-16 season, contributing to Brockport’s first SUNYAC tournament appearance since the 2008-09 season. Her duties included skill development, primarily developing point guards and perimeter players, scouting opponents, managing the academic progress of student-athletes, film exchange and program digital design and media.

A graduate of the University at Buffalo, Gupilan had an exceptional playing career at the Division I level and was the first recruit from California. She played under coaches Linda Hill-MacDonald and Felisha Legette-Jack. A three-year captain, Gupilan helped lead the Bulls to three playoff appearances, earning a reputation for her excellent court vision and leadership. She finished her career with 357 assists—ranking sixth all-time in Buffalo history—and was known for her ability to run an offense, finishing third in the Mid-American Conference in assists and sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio. Her accolades also include over 500 career points, 200 rebounds, and 300 assists.

As a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Gupilan is committed to advancing the game through mentorship and education, inspiring and empowering the next generation of student-athletes. Her elite coaching philosophy blends her extensive playing experience with a sharp tactical mind, making her a respected leader shaping the future of players she works with, both on and off the court.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Gupilan holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication from the University at Buffalo and earned an MBA in Education with a focus on Athletic Administration from SUNY Brockport.
