Wong is an alumna of Wheaton College (Mass.) where she swam for four years with the Lyons, racing primarily in the sprint free and butterfly events. She was named the Dean Sue Alexander Senior Female Athlete of the year in 2015 and graduated with a bachelor's in Philosophy. From 2015-2019, Cara taught English in Asago, Hyogo, Japan on the Japanese Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) Program. She currently works as an Academic Coordinator for the Division of Politics & Economics at Claremont Graduate University.A native of Irvington, New York, Wong attended and swam for Irvington High School. She also swam under Condors Swim Club.
