RICHARDSON, TX. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball Team lost to Trinity University (Texas) on Saturday morning in the final day of the University of Texas – Dallas Invite, falling 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 23-25, 25-18). Trailing 2-0, the Sagehens tried to come back with in the third set with improved attacking to cut the lead in half, but fell in the fourth to drop the match. Isabel Kelly finished the match with a game-high 14 kills while Naomi Chen-Mallouk finished with 11. Lauren Asato made 22 digs and Adrienne Tong completed 28 assists.
Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 4-3 overall this season.
The Tigers felt just at home in the opening two sets, with the offense hitting .244 in the first set and .409 in the second. However, the Sagehens found their form in the third, limiting the Tigers to a .135 hitting percentage while they hit .143. The two sides battled back and forth in the beginning of the set, but the Sagehens pulled away after leading 12-11 with three straight points. The Tigers tied it back at 20 apiece, but the Sagehens refused to fall behind when Kelly landed a big kill off a pass by Tong. The Tigers followed with an attack error to give the Sagehens a 22-20 lead. Leading 24-23, the Sagehens closed it out after Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong landed a kill off a toss by Britnie Casillas.
The Sagehens tried to stay within striking distance in the fourth set, staying close they trailed 22-18. However, a four-point run by the Tigers sealed the match.
Up Next: The Sagehens will next play against UC Santa Cruz and Puget Sound at home as they co-host the Leopard Invitational with University of La Verne. They will face the Banana Slugs on Friday, September 13 at 4:00 p.m. and the Loggers at 7:00 p.m.
