CLAREMONT, CA . – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball team kick off it's season on August 31st as they play a doubleheader against Mount Aloysius at 11:45 a.m. and Salisbury University at 4:30 p.m at the Pacific Coast Classic. The Sagehens are eager to step back on the court and start their 2018 campaign as they go on the hunt for their third SCIAC Championship.
The Sagehens finished last season 8-20 overall and 5-11 in conference play, scoring notable victories over Texas Lutheran, Cal Lutheran, Chapman, and East Texas Baptist. The Sagehens' offense was led by then-senior Jessica Finn who delivered 496 assists and averaged 5.01 assists per game. She ended her career with 2600 total assists with the Sagehens. On the receiving end, then-senior Natalie Martin did an outstanding job in keeping the Hens in games, collecting 3.82 digs per game and getting a season-high 313. She ended her career with 559 total digs.
Junior Isabel Kelly will look to follow up from her successful 2017 season in which she was All-SCIAC Second Team. The opposite hitter led the team with 233 kills and compiled 42 total blocks last season and looks to make another jump. Junior Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong has also taken the leap forward, improving from her first-year campaign by hitting 162 kills and stuffing 34 total blocks. The Sagehens also have a versatile weapon in Julia Zwaal, as the returning senior has shown to contribute on offense with 166 kills last season and keep the Hens alive on defense after recording 211 digs. Sophomore Britnie Casillas will be counted on to fill in Finn's shoes as the setter delivered 263 assists last season and will see an expanded role this year.
Incoming First Years
Head Coach Valerie Townsend brought in a talented rookie class to the program that can make major contributions to the program, including defensive specialist Rylie Fong, outside hitters Gaby Harrison and Chloe Kerstein, and setter Adrienne Tong.
