GENEVA, OH. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Track and Field team ended day one of the NCAA Division III Championships with an All-American performance as first-year Lila Cardillo took eighth place in the 10,000m run on Thursday afternoon at the Spire Institute.
Cardillo became the first Sagehen to become an All-American in Women's Cross Country and Women's Track and Field as a first-year as she finished in eighth place with a time of 36:43.71. "I ran the race plan I wanted to run," said Cardillo. "It felt really great to run in a supportive, competitive environment. I'm happy I was able to run at Nationals, and I learned a lot."
Junior Lauren Hamilton also finished her year in the 10k as she took 17th overall with a time of 37:40.95. "Lila ran a superb race.," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "She was patient early, then aggressive when crunch time came. I'm so pleased and proud of her. What a great achievement! I'm very pleased with Lauren's effort, too, given where she's been the past few weeks. Lauren is so tough, and she'll be back racing well this fall."
The Sagehens will be back tomorrow as junior Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong will be the lone competitor for the Sagehens to compete in the prelims of the 100 meter hurdles at 2:10 p.m.
