CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis Team closed out the regular season with a dominating 9-0 sweep over University of Redlands on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the match, seniors Maryann Zhao, Emily Chen, and Shivani Doraiswami were recognized for their service and commitment to the women's tennis program.
Season Impact: The victory improves the Sagehens' record to 13-6 overall and 6-1 in the SCIAC. They end the regular season in second place in the standings.
Arianna Chen and Zhao made easy work over their opponents Sarah Ikoka and Elizabeth Johnson in no. 1 doubles, winning 8-4. Caroline Casper and Chen followed with a 8-1 win over Kate Dolan and Jackie Lacy in no. 2. Doraiswami and Jay Kim concluded no. 3 with a convincing 8-3 victory over Karen Kobayashi and Lexi Lehman.
Arianna Chen took down Dolan in no. 6 singles with a pair of 6-0 shutouts, improving her singles record to 9-2. Zhao also swept her opponent, Johnson, in no. 2 singles with 6-0 shutouts to improve her record to 14-5. Over in no. 3 singles, Summer Garrison cruised to a 6-0 and 6-2 win over Lehman and saw her individual record improve to 9-4. Doraiswami had little trouble winning over Lacy in no. 4 singles, dominating 6-1 and 6-2. She finishes the regular season 13-7 in singles.
Caroline Casper won over Ikoka in no. 1 singles, 6-3 and 6-4, improving her singles record to 9-8. Emily Chen was the last to finish her match, taking down Kobayashi in no. 5 singles with a pair of close 6-4 sets to see her record climb to 12-6.
