CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Women's took a tough 8-1 loss to the No. 2 Williams College Ephs on Friday afternoon. The Sagehens managed to nab one victory in doubles, but the Ephs proved to be too much in singles.
Season Impact: The loss sets the Hens back with a 7-4 record overall.
Maryann Zhao and Arianna Chen triumphed in their doubles match over Chloe Henderson and Rachel Cross, taking no. 1 doubles 8-6. In no. 2 doubles, Emily Chen and Shivani Doraiswami fell to Julie Raventos and Karina Naveux 8-4. Carolina Casper and Jacinta Chen took a close 8-5 loss in no. 3 doubles to Julia McDonnell and Emily Zheng.
The Sagehens struggled to string a comeback in the singles matches. Casper took a tough 6-2 and 7-5 loss in no. 1 while Maryann Zhao was taken to three sets in no. 2 but fell in the third set tiebreaker (6-4, 5-7, 10-6). In no. 3, Summer Garrison battled three sets with Leah Bush, coming back from 6-0 loss with a 6-2 win in the second set, but Bush sealed the third set 6-3. Shivani Doraiswami was also taken to three sets, but was unfortunate in the deciding set of no. 4 singles. Emily Chen dropped no. 5 singles 6-2 and 6-0 to Mia Gancayco and Arianna Chen lost no. 6 singles 7-6 (1) and 6-4.
