Women's Tennis: Sagehens Dominant in SCIAC Opener

CLAREMONT, CA – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Tennis team opened up SCIAC play in dominating fashion, beating the Occidental College Tigers 9-0 Saturday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

Arianna Chen and Caroline Casper teamed up to defeat Oxy's Samantha Farrell and Lauren Hutkin in the No. 1 doubles match 8-0. Yurie Heard and Mae Coyiuto won the No. 2 match 8-1, and Maddie Gordon and Lucy Jiang made it a clean sweep in the doubles competition, winning the No. 3 doubles match 8-1.


In the No.1 match, Arianna Chen scored a 6-3, 6-0 win over Samantha Farrell, and Shivani Doraiswami defeated Maxine Krygier 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 match.

Emily Chen beat Nicole Castro 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 match, and Yurie Heafd defeated Andrewa Clawson 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 match. 

Lucy Jiang and Maddie Gordon each recorded 6-0, 6-0 wins. Jiang beat Lauren Hutkin in the No. 5 match and Gordon bested Anya Silverman-Stoloff in the No. 6 match.

Next Mach: The Sagehens host SCIAC opponent Chapman University next Saturday at 2 p.m.
