Women's Swim & Dive: Chapman, Whittier Meet Ends In Sagehens Favor

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Swim and Dive Team remain on the top of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon after beating both Whittier College and Chapman University in a dual meet. The Sagehens outscored the Poets 186-110 and beat the Panthers 193-105.

Emma van der Veen led the Hens on the diving boards, taking second in the 3-meter at 198.70 and third in the 1-meter at 203.35.

The Hens opened the meet with two teams finishing in the top-three in the 200 yard medley relay. Angela Ling, Maddie Kauahi, Alex Seidel, and Kate Denend worked to a first place finish at 1:50.26. Tori Agostini, Clare Flynn, Mikaela Nishida, and Sabrina Kwan took third at 1:53.74. Senior Vee Vanderpoel was neck-to-neck against teammate Anna Newman in the 1650 freestyle, but the upperclassman triumphed to a first place finish at 18:17.92. Newman followed in second at 18:19.85.

Following her contribution to the Hens' relay victory, Angela Ling went on to take first place in the 100 backstroke. Sabrina Kwan won the 200 butterfly at 2:14.47 and the 100 butterfly at 59.10.

Maddie Kauahi continued her strong junior campaign, taking first in the 50 freestyle at 24.55 and the 100 freestyle at 53.85. Anna Newman closed out the individual events with a first place finish in the 400 individual medley at 4:44.48.

Denise Dao, Denend, Seidel, and Kauahi concluded the meet with a first place victory in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:38.18.

The Hens will swim again at home on Friday, December 1 at 3 p.m. and Saturday December 2 at 11 a.m. as they host cross-street rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on both dates.
