EAGLE ROCK, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse Team took a tough 13-12 loss on the road to Occidental College on Wednesday evening. Despite leading for majority of the game, the Sagehens could not hold off a big Tigers rally in the final 12 minutes of the game. Eleanor Mackey led the team with three goals while Lily Hermann and Lilly Thomey chipped in two. On the defensive end, Nicole Larson and Kiera Havill co-led with five ground balls and Larson caused two turnovers.
Season Impact: The loss puts the Sagehens at 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the SCIAC.
Marie Whitmore scored the opening goal for the Tigers, but the Sagehens responded with three straight goals within a minute. Kiera Havill scored the game-tying goal for the Sagehens and Maggie Sweeney and Eleanor Mackey followed to make it 3-1. With a 3-2 lead, Emma Sheridan sparked another Sagehen rally as the visiting side scored five straight, starting with a goal by the sophomore defender. Herrman and Thomey followed to extend the lead while Thyra Herrman scored unassisted to make it 7-2. Mackey capped the rally with an unassisted effort to extend the advantage 8-2. The Tigers scored twice to close the first half and cut the deficit 8-4.
The Tigers tried to rally back to start the second half, cutting the lead 9-7, but Mackey stopped the rally with unassisted goal to extend the lead 10-7. Lily Herrman scored with 19:03 left in the game, assisted by her sister Thyra and Thyra later scored off a pass by Havill to make it 12-8. However, the Tigers battled back with five straight goals to close out the game and steal the victory.
