LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental 11-9 on Saturday night.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 5-10 overall and are now 1-7 in SCIAC play.
The Tigers were led by Ciara Byrne who had a game-high five in the win.
Occidental jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start out the game before the Sagehens scored their first goal of the game as Hubbell scored off of an assist from sophomore Lilly Thomey to cut the lead down to 3-1.
After another Occidental goal, the Sagehens scored back to back goals from Marx and Olson to tie the game at 3-3 with 18:50 left in the first.
The Sagehens and Tigers alternated goals to end the half as Olson and Marx scored their second goals of the night as the teams went into the half tied at 5-5.
Pomona-Pitzer came out and scored two-straight goals to open up the half as Long scored off of a free position shot and again off of an assist from Hubbell to give the Sagehens their largest lead of the night at 7-5.
The Tigers came back and took over the game as they scored six-straight goals to take an 11-7 lead with 9:32 remaining in the game.
The Sagehens scored two goals late in the second half from Hubbell and freshman Eileen Mahler but Occidental's defense held on to the lead late to hand the Sagehens a loss on the road.
