LAX: Pomona-Pitzer Falls Late To George Fox, 13-12

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Lacrosse team fell late to non-conference opponent George Fox 13-12 on Wednesday afternoon at the South Athletics complex.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 5-6 overall while the Bruins improve to 5-1 overall.

The Sagehens were led by senior Rebecca Long who tallied a game-high four goals in the loss and notched her eighth hat trick of the season. Freshman Sophia Silane also tallied her first career hat trick as she scored a career-high three goals.

The Bruins were led by Jess Hanson who also had a game-high four goals for George Fox in the win.

The Bruins and Sagehens were locked in a back and forth contest in tonight's game as the lead changed hands nine times throughout the two halves.

George Fox got on the board first as Lois Ray scored on a free position shot to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead with just over 20 seconds off of the clock.

The Sagehens went on to take their first lead of the game as back to back goals by sophomore Lilly Thomey and Long gave the Sagehens a 2-1 lead.

The Bruins responded with back to back goals of their own to take a 3-2 lead but the Sagehens came back with two-straight goals again by freshman Sonia Olson and Silane to hold a 4-3 lead with 19:52 remaining.

George Fox scored the next two goals and the Sagehens ended the half scoring three out of the final four goals by Silane and two goals from Long as Pomona-Pitzer held a slight 7-6 lead at the half.

George Fox opened up the second half with two-straight goals to reclaim the lead at 8-7 before the Sagehens took the lead right back at 9-8 with unassisted goals from Thomey and freshman Christian Rowe.

The Bruins answered with one goal by Hanson but the Sagehens responded with two more goals by Long and Olson to hold their largest lead of the night at 11-9 with 21:30 left to play.

George Fox ended the final 20 minutes of the game with four of the final five goals in the game capped off by Miranda Edwords scoring the go-ahead goal with 35 seconds left on the clock to give the Bruins the 13-12 win on the road.
