CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Lacrosse team defeated non-conference opponent North Central College 16-3 on Thursday night at the South Athletics Complex.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 5-5 and have now won two-straight games while North Central drops to 4-3 overall.
The Sagehens were led by senior Rebecca Long who tallied her seventh hat trick of the season as she had a game-high five goals in the win. Freshman Sonia Olson had a career night as she posted a career-high four goals in the win for her first career collegiate hat trick. Senior Sallie Marx, sophomore Lilly Thomey and freshman Eileen Mahler each contributed two goals to the total while freshman Sophia Silane chipped in with one.
The Cardinals were led by Madison Maas who had a team-high two goals in the loss.
North Central came out in the first half and quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Maas scored her first goal of the night just under a minute into the game to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
It was all Sagehens after the early North Central goal as Pomona-Pitzer rattled off eight-straight goals from Thomey, Marx, Olson, Silane and Mahler to take an 8-1 lead with 6:17 left in the first half.
Maas broke the scoring streak with her second goal of the night but the Sagehens responded with 2:30 left in the half as Mahler scored off of an assist from Long to give the Sagehens a 9-2 lead at halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer began the second half with Long scoring three-straight goals to give the Sagehens a 10-goal lead at 12-1 with 24:48 remaining.
Pomona-Pitzer only surrendered one more goal to North Central and closed out the game with goals from Long and Olson as the Sagehens cruised to a 12-point victory over the Cardinals.
